A New Range of

ON BOARD GLOW PLUG DRIVERS
Australian Made by Lion Electronics

In what we believe to be a world first we have in addition to our standard single channel  model developed a dual channel version to allow continuous remote control of the glow plug driving system

This PIC/FET technology product is marketed in two versions being either a single channel or dual channel unit. The single channel version allows you to switch the glow plug on over any user programmed section of the throttle control stick movement on a Radio control system. The dual channel version has the same first function as the single channel unit but then allows the glow to be adjusted on a ten stage switching arrangement from off to full on on the remainder of the stick travel up to full throttle.
Both versions are capable of driving anywhere from 1 to 5 glow plugs in their standard form.

How Do On Board Glow Plug Drivers Work and Why Would You Want One

If you are having problems with a motor not idling properly then this is probably the solution. In  larger motors it is usually possible to advance or retard the timing but this is not normally so with model motors. In fact with modern motor vehicles computer control systems the timing can be adjusted on an ongoing by the moment  basis which is part of the reason such high power for low fuel consumption figures are reached. In model motors we are forced to adjust the timing by selecting different heat range glow plugs. With the many and varied range of fuels further affecting the settings this task becomes even more difficult to sometimes near impossible. Fit an “On Board Glow Plug Driver” - Now you have the ability to vary the timing at high to low throttle and with the dual channel model even in between these settings. This means that you can find the best heat range glow plug to suit your high throttle running and effectively make it a colder plug at idle by applying a voltage to the plug through the “On Board Glow Plug Driver”.  The units are easily programmed allowing you to set the following controls on the following versions available now:-

Single Channel

1. The low throttle glow plug on point. (Push the trim control down for off or motor kill).
2. The glow plug off point. (This can be anywhere above the low point as set).

Extra Control with a Dual Channel Model

3. From the glow plug off point through to full throttle the glow can be varied from full off to full on or anywhere in between (on a ten stage switching arrangement) with a separate channel.

WITH AN “ON BOARD GLOW” YOU CAN OPTIMIZE PEAK AND IDLE PERFORMANCE EVEN ON DIFFICULT MOTORS

Wiring in for Use

They are very easy to connect up. Firstly plug the throttle servo directly into the “On Board Glow Plug Driver” at the pins marked as “SERVO”. Next take the jumper lead supplied and plug it into the pins marked “RX 1-4” and then into your receiver at the throttle servo position. Now if you have a dual channel model take the second jumper lead and connect it from the “AUX” on your “On Board Glow Plug Driver” to the spare channel you have chosen to use on your receiver. Lastly make up a harness to incorporate the battery you have chosen to use to drive the glow plug. This can use a  simple battery holder so as to allow you to remove the battery for charging or it can have the battery hard wired in with a charging jack included to allow charging in situ. Our PG 132 1.2-2 volt mains plug pack is ideal to charge the glow driver battery with a charge rate of 120 mah (A simple RCA chassis mount socket wired into the circuit  will accommodate the plug as supplied on the charger). Lastly wire the “On Board Glow” directly to the glow plugs as per the diagram. This is where the Taipan hard wired plugs will glow for you as they will be the easiest and most convenient for connection.

This new range of on board glow drivers take what is a product of the future to a new standard of professionalism and sophistication.
